My doctor wants to give my kids the meningococcal or menningitis vaccine shot together with the flu shot. Is this safe? Sometime when I go to the doctor I feel like Im at a car dealership, they are pushing the vaccine like a sales person. Maybe they are just concerned for my kids and I am over protective.
Thanks for your time!
For those of us who question the efficacy of vaccines, being responsible and taking our children to the doctor for their well care visits or for any of the childhood illness that might occur become a battle ground on the vaccine front. In a way doctors have become like used car salesmen because they cannot or will not give intelligent, meaningful science on why you should have your child vaccinated.
The flu vaccine is the best marketed vaccine of the day. It may randomly prevent a flu but so does taking vitamin C which has no preservatives, additives or human tissue. Remember the vaccine is built and manufactured the year before based on statistical models of the most likely viral trend. The definition of a Virus is that it mutates or changes with the environment. This means that you are more likely to get the flu from the vaccine than prevent (this is shown statistically) and you will not prevent a different flu event.
Although I understand the fear around meningitis there are two forms that occur, viral and bacterial. It is the bacterial form that is more likely to cause death. The vaccine is more recent and I do not know if the have the science that proves that the vaccine is preventive and reduces mortality.
As a responsible parent I would feel more secure practicing healthy natural prevention. Being educated on the say signs and symptoms of childhood illnesses and responding appropriately should illness occur.
My blog Stay Healthy This Flu Season Without Vaccines may be helpful.
Saw this and have researched for myself. I got this from the National Vaccine Information Center a good resource. Hope it helps.
