Aspirin and Breast Cancer Risk
Posted by: Naturally In: Supplements and Herbs| Women's Health
A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute fiound that taking aspirin or ibuprofen may increase a woman’s breast cancer risk by 50%.
What they found was
1: Women who took ibuprofen daily for at least five years were about 50% more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer than those who did not take the drug regularly.
2: Women who took aspirin daily for at least five years were 80% more likely to develop breast cancers that were NOT sensitive to the hormones estrogen or progesterone than women who were not regular users of aspirin.
The mixed messages keep coming in on Aspirin and Ibuprofen. Or as the meds like to call them, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
The study brief states, “Epidemiologic studies of the association between nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen, and breast cancer risk have yielded inconsistent results.”
The study investigated the association of NSAID use with risk of breast cancer in 114,00 women with ages ranging from 22-85. The women were free of breast cancer when they began participation in the study.
A total of 2,391 women were diagnosed with breast cancer during the follow-up period.
