A new sturdy from the University of Grenoble confirms the positive impact of flavonoids, a variety of polyphenols, on human health. The study was conducted in collaboration with the FLORA Project, a European Commission funded research project.
The research is published in the Journal of Nutrition..
In the study, researchers studied the impact on rats of a diet rich in flavonoids. Rats fed the flavonoids had significantly fewer heart problems than those not given the flavonoids. While researchers pointed out that the cellular mechanism for the effect of dietary flavanoids is not clear, the results are.
According to the authors, the point is now to turn to humans. One thing is clear, and that is that the Mediterranean dietis rich in heart healthy flavonoids, while the typical “western diet” is not.
