The statin explosion in the U.S. may be keeping Americans awake according to a the largest study of its king new study presented at the American Heart Association’s annual meeting.
While previous studies have pointed to statins and sleep problems, the studies were small and too short-term to be effective. This study followed 1,106 healthy adults for six months. Participants received similar dosages of the choloesteral drugs Zocor (simvastatin) or Pravachol (pravastatin), or a placebo for six months.
More of the participants who received the Zocor reported significantly more sleep problems which over the course of the study effected behavior in some participants.
