A study on surgery problems says time makes all the difference.
The study by researches at Duke University looked at about 90,000 surgeries. Depending on the time of day, there were more or less problems with the surgery.
The difference could be very significant. When surgeries was done after 4PM the chances of problems was 4 times greater that surgeries done at 9AM.
Why? Well that is a mystery but there are some common sense reasons. Like it is later in the day and docs and nurses are more tired and stressed. It is also common that workloads increase later in the day. Who wants to start their day with surgery?
