An analysis by Medco Health Solutions shows huge growth the prescription sleeping pills for children and young adults. The data shows that children using meds for sleep skyrocketed by 85 percent for children from 10-19 and doubled for adults from20-44, all between 2000-2004. The study looked at reviewed prescription drug claims for over 2 million Americans between 2000 and 2004.
Can this possibly be a positive health trend? We are starting children at younger and younger ages on more and more drugs. The mixed message alone is mind-boggling: Just Say No to Drugs, and don’t forget to take your sleeping pills. This trend is especially frustrating whenn there are effective non-drug sleep aids available.
