Recent comments by a former British expert on vaccinations, reported in the Daily Mail, raise continued concerns about the safety of the MMR vaccine.
Dr Peter Fletcher, no slouch in the field of vaccines, was Chief Scientific Officer at the Department of Health in the UK. According to the article, in this capacity he was responsible for deciding whether medicines are safe. According to the report, Dr Fletcher believes the data shows a worldwide accumulation of evidence that the use of the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine is resulting in brain damage to certain children.
Dr Fletcher takes officials responsible for evaluating and approving vaccines to task for not properly evaluating the risks of the MMR. This is not the first time Dr Fletcher has raised the alarm, in 2001 he expressed fears about the MMR because it was his opinion that the safety trials for the MMR were inadequate. Now he fears the concerns he raised early on have become reality.
Going further, according to the article, he raises questions about officials putting their own careers over the safety of infants.
Dr. Fletcher is currently an expert witness for parents on drug-safety trials. In this capacity he has had access to thousands of documents relating to MMR safety that he believes the public has a right to access.
Dr Fletcher slams official lack of action given the explosive worldwide increase in regressive brain disorders and inflammatory bowel disease in children, first linked to the live measles virus in the MMR vaccine by clinical researcher Dr Andrew Wakefield in 1998.
