Creams work as well as pills without the side effects.
A new study from Briton reported by the BBC suggests that using ibuprofen type pain relievers in topical cream form works as well as pills.
For the study researchers from Queen Mary University of London, 585 patients were given non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) – a class of drugs which includes ibuprofen. in pill or topical cream form.
Researchers found that the creams were as effective as the pills in relieving pain. However, creams do not have the side effects of pills, such as indigestion, increased blood pressure, potential heart problems, or aggravating asthma symptoms.
Researchers noted that it is generally accepted by doctors that topica creams or not as effective as drugs for pain, and urged doctors to take a harder look at the safer creams.
