Following the recent French study that found rats developed cancer on a diet of GMO corn, Russia will ban Monsanto’s genetically modified (GM) corn, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The Russia’s Institute of Nutrition has been asked to assess the validity of the study.
The action follows announcement by France that it will uphold it’s ban on genetically modified crops in the country. after an EU wide ban was rejected.
The ban in France follows President Francois Hollande push to put the environment back at the top of the international agenda.
Monsanto is also facing the California fight for Proposition 37, which would require genetically modified foods to be labeled.
