Kathy Kaplan has worked in the fitness field for 19 years. Kathy has twice received the “Teacher who makes a difference” award from Placer County Association of California School Administrators (A.C.S.A) and the Placer County of Education.
She holds a teaching credential in Physical Fitness and Conditioning and a Bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition. To complement these, her other certifications include:
The main emphasis of her classes focuses on the adult exerciser, from the very active to the frail older adult. By incorporating a variety of class modalities, she provides each student with the exercise training appropriate for their fitness levels. Her classes include the components of cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and balance conditioning; step and low-impact aerobics, chair stretch and strengthen, strength/resistance training, yoga, and tai chi among others.
In addition to her exercise curriculum, Kathy teaches a variety of dance classes which incorporate different forms of Latin, Flamenco, Belly dance, and country line. But her long time love (23 years) has been clogging, which she teaches at all levels from beginning through advanced.
Kathy believes that dance and exercise wouldn’t be complete without the vital element of good nutrition as part of overall health and fitness. She teaches basic foods and nutrition and cooking. Both of these classes emphasize the introduction of new foods and the impact that foods and nutrients have on the body. The cooking portion always focuses on vegetarian recipes; Kathy herself has been a vegetarian/vegan for 31 years.
In her spare time, Kathy loves to x-country ski, kayak, bike, hike, camp and explore. She currently lives in the beautiful Sierra foothills of Auburn which provides the perfect setting to undertake all these sporting pleasures. When the weather turns inclement, Kathy enjoys staying inside to work on stained glass, to test new recipes (so many foods, too little time) or to indulge in her sudoku addiction.
